ARE EPOXY FLOORS SLIPPERY?

9/28/2019

Slippery floors are dangerous because they greatly increase the odds of someone falling and getting hurt. Epoxy itself isn't any more or less slippery than traditional flooring types, but we do have the option of adding non-slip additives.

Do I need a non-slip epoxy garage floor coating?

When it comes to non-slip additives to epoxy, there's no right or wrong or answer. Instead, think about how you're going to use the flooring. If the epoxy is for a garage floor coating, it's probably going to be exposed to fluids from your car and the outdoors. Whenever you have liquid pooling on your floor, it's going to be easier to sleep on. Non-slip additives can help reduce the hazard of wet garage flooring.

A basement floor, on the other hand, won't be exposed to liquids dripping off your car. Many people also choose to dress up their basement with area rugs, which further cuts down on the odds of slipping. However, if you use your basement as a workshop space or have a walk-out basement, you may want to consider non-slip epoxy.
